About the event
The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. We call these patterns, 'tangles'. These patterns are drawn on small pieces of paper called 'tiles'. The Method is great for non-artists.
The patterns are unplanned so you can focus on each stroke and not worry about the result. There is no up or down, You don't need to know what a tangle is going to look like to draw it. You just need to know the steps. You don't have to be creative, or have done art before. It is for everyone. The result is a delightful surprise!
For the session all the materials will be be provide. You will be following closely what the teacher is showing you, and you will be following, one pen or pencil stroke at a time. You won't get lost, the teacher is there to guide you.
You may like the workshop if you come with no expectations and are willing to be 'in the moment'. The end result is not important, which is why showing lots of finished patterns that other people make is not useful to someone who has never done this before, as you may think you can't do it, without giving it a try.
If you continue to use the Zentangle Method to create beautiful images daily or weekly, you likely will enjoy increased focus, creativity, self-confidence and an increased sense of well-being.
The session will be led by a Certified Zentangle Teacher. You will also be shown how to do this at home, if you would like a new relaxing hobby. At the end of the session you will have your own creation to take away.
Research is now pointing the way to the benefits of this mindful activity.
Recent research has highlighted the significant benefits of practicing Zentangle. A study published in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy found that participants who engaged in Zentangle showed significant reductions in negative affect and anxiety, as well as improvements in self-compassion, especially with regular practice.
The Women's Brain Health Initiative (Canada) reports that Zentangle not only reduces stress and anxiety but also enhances focus, creativity, and self-confidence. It's a practice that yields benefits quickly, sometimes even after just one session. https://womensbrainhealth.org/think-tank/zentangle?rq=zentangle
