What is the Zentangle Method?
The Zentangle® Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and enjoyable way to create beautiful images using structured patterns. It was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, and “Zentangle” is a registered trademark of Zentangle, Inc.
The patterns themselves are called tangles, and the process of creating them is known as tangling. Tangling involves drawing deliberate, repetitive strokes that gently guide attention to the present moment. This focused way of working often brings a sense of calm, helping to reduce stress and anxiety while supporting concentration and mental clarity.
Tangling is intentionally accessible and non-intimidating. No artistic background is needed, and there is no pressure to produce a particular result. Guided by an ethos of “no mistakes”, the process is non-judgemental and non-competitive, offering a simple yet meaningful way to explore creativity, self-expression and quiet moments of well-being.
If you want it slightly more formal, more therapeutic, or more inviting for a general public audience, it’s easy to nudge the tone in any of those direction
